With more than 30 years of experience in business and law, Aaron London, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B has worked in private practice and as in-house general counsel.
I love business and law and their complex relationship. While I'm drawn to the construction and manufacturing sectors, all businesses share commonalities: HR problems are industry agnostic; contracts set out rights, obligations, and if correctly drafted, exhaust liability and indemnity questions; resolving conflicts or making claims arise where there is a difference of opinion about who did or didn't do something they were obliged to do.
The difference between in-house and external counsel
You may ask "Why do I need general counsel? I already have a lawyer."
As your retained general counsel, or in-house counsel, my role is fundamentally different than your external counsel. I become a part of your executive management team.
I absorb your work program, your administrative and financial systems, your organizational chart, and how you do business. I learn your business from the executive level and understand it from the operational level. As we move forward, I filter issues through a powerful combination of law and broad experience in manufacturing, general contracting, and subcontracting and apply those skills and experience to your unique issues and circumstances. Over my career, I have been on both sides of the transaction in general contracting, subcontracting, and manufacturing. I have dealt with manufacturers, suppliers, consultants, owners, subcontractors, sub-subcontractors and general contractors. I have dealt extensively with local, regional, national, and international firms and have broad perspective, experience and insights to add to your team's strength.
I bring immediate strength and experience to your management team, on demand, and fill a gap that most SMEs can't afford.
What is the value proposition? Fractionalized retained general counsel gives you the benefit of savvy, industry experienced in-house counsel, deeply knowledgeable about your business on your schedule, and your budget. By fractionalizing my services, every client gets the benefit of the Pareto Principle. That is, if 20% of the work yields 80% of the results, by staking out a modest time commitment to your company, you and I focus on what is most important, and what brings the greatest value to you and your business.
Retaining general counsel immediately increases your company’s capacity to perform, manage risk, and positions you for even greater operational excellence. If you don't have a management team here is an opportunity to add a senior, trusted advisor to your team. With deep industry experience and knowledge, Aaron works with you to make your business better.
