Do you ever wonder when the problems, issues, and obstacles will end? The bad news is they never will, but the good news is there are steps you can take to reduce their occurrence and magnitude. You may not sleep perfectly, but those changes will make you sleep better.
Every company has its own DNA. That DNA is the bedrock for the company's operational culture. Problems can arise internally or externally. You can't always control external problems, but you can fix internal systems. We all know change management is very hard. It's even harder when you, as the owner or manager, spend your time stamping out urgent fires. There seems to be no time to even think about improving the day-to-day operations that drive your business forward. But here's the thing: Those day-to-day operations are the cause of many of the urgent problems you're dealing with.
I'm a big believer in continuous improvement and efficiency. Change is possible. Sometimes you need a little help. I've seen businesses with great systems and no systems, systems that should work, but don't, and systems that shouldn't work, but do.
At the end of the day, whether your objective is to make your operations more reliable and profitable, spend less time firefighting so you can do more of what invigorates you, or maximizes company value for exit, the journey begins with some small steps.
There is no magic elixir here, but positive change is within reach.
It's a well-known fact that management consulting can be a black hole. For me, it is critical to identify metrics up front so we can measure changes along the way to ensure that there is value in the process. Well defined and incremental changes will add up to big savings.
And you'll sleep better.
